On Saturday, April 4, 2009, at a ceremony held at the Da Nang International Airport, the remains of three US servicemen missing since the end of the war where officially handed over to the United States. In attendance were the US Ambassador Michael W. Michalak, the JPAC Detachment 2, local US citizens residing in Da Nang and other interested persons.
JPAC, The Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command Detachment Two mission is to plan, coordinate and execute humanitarian efforts to account-for and resolve the fates of unaccounted-for Americans from the Vietnam War.
The remains will be taken to the JPAC Central Identification Laboratory in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii for positive DNA identification before their identities are released to the public.
