Resolved Question: Central coast or central highlands? Itinerary advice for March?

Hi all, I'm in the process of planning a trip to Vietnam this March. I'll have just over two weeks total for the trip. I'm flying into Hanoi and planning to spend the first week there, with a side trip or two (Ha Long Bay?). And I'll be flying out of HCMC so spending the last couple of days there. That leaves me with about 5 days in between. My original thought was to fly to Danang from Hanoi and spend the time in Hue and/or Hoi An, dividing my time between the two. However, after doing some research, I'm wondering if that's just the "typical" tourist route, and I'm also intrigued by the Central Highlands. So I was thinking of flying from Hanoi to Dalat and spending a few days in that area instead. My concern is that everything I've read says that March isn't the best time to visit the Dalat area, and also that it's described as "kitchy". On the other hand, the idea of seeing some of the mountain scenery and doing some hiking is appealing. Pros/cons/thoughts? Maybe a third option I haven't considered? For reference, I'm a pretty experienced backpacker but I haven't been to SEA yet (well, except for Singapore which doesn't count). I don't speak Vietnamese but I'm fluent in French - which I hear can be both a pro and a con. And I'm traveling solo.... Read More »
